Open 4 Business Grant Program
The Open 4 Business Grant is Main Street Centerville's signature program, designed to encourage new businesses and help existing ones grow in the downtown district. Since its launch, the program has helped dozens of entrepreneurs turn vacant storefronts into thriving businesses.
Program Overview
Eligible downtown businesses can apply for grants of up to $5,000 to cover startup costs, equipment purchases, interior improvements, and inventory. The program is funded through community donations, corporate sponsors, and municipal support.
Grants are awarded on a competitive basis, with preference given to businesses that fill a gap in downtown's retail or service mix, create new jobs, and occupy vacant or underutilized spaces.
Who Can Apply
- New businesses opening in the designated downtown district
- Existing downtown businesses undertaking a significant expansion
- Business owners who have secured a lease or own property in the district
- Businesses that align with Main Street Centerville's revitalization goals
Eligible Expenses
Grant funds may be used for a range of startup and growth expenses, including:
- Equipment and fixtures: Display cases, kitchen equipment, furniture, POS systems
- Interior improvements: Painting, flooring, lighting, restroom upgrades
- Inventory: Initial stock for retail businesses
- Signage: Exterior and interior signage that meets district design guidelines
- Marketing: Grand opening promotions, website setup, initial advertising
Funds cannot be used for rent, utilities, salaries, or debt repayment.
Application Process
- Attend an information session, We hold sessions quarterly. Check the events calendar for the next date.
- Submit your application, Include a basic business plan, budget for how grant funds would be used, and proof of downtown location.
- Committee review, Our Economic Vitality Committee reviews applications and may schedule an interview.
- Award notification, Successful applicants are notified within 30 days of the application deadline.
- Disbursement, Funds are released on a reimbursement basis with receipts, or directly to vendors.
